Weekly Blog 12/10/22

So it's kind-of been a rough week for me personally. Not feel too good for most of the week, an upcoming doctor's appointment only added extra stress on top of that, and I could not get the peace and quiet needed for a good night's sleep even if my life depended on it. Even with all that said, I think of a couple things to talk about, probably not ramble too long since it's getting late and I really need to catch up on sleep. Today I slept in all the way to 9:30, which is a lot for me considering even when I don't have to wake up to an alarm, my body tends to wake me up before 8.

Paper Mario/Golden Sun

Nothing fun to report this week. Most of my modding time has been with finishing up the class document. All main classes are done, all that's really left is adding back in the Jack Adept/Toolsmith class.

TBH I'm still on the fence of if I want to keep it, but I guess it's easier to just add it in now and so I can playtest to rebalancing it/decide if I should get of it later. The problems of it from a battle standpoint ESPECIALLY reared it's ugly face when I was giving it a playtest in Venus Lighthouse on the last Dawn of Djinn stream. It's intentionally supposed to be the weakest class to keep it's focus for utility outside of battle, but a full party of said class was down-right unusable, and I think that may be going to far. It's a big reason I'm questioning if it's worth even putting in Second Mix at all. Especially since in Second Mix every class is new and there's much more interesting Psynergy tied behind certain classes.

But don't take my word for it. Typically, I hide my Dawn of Djinn livestreams unlisted to avoid confusion with the video series. But I'll make an exception this time so I can timestamp the stream and let you all see what I mean for yourself...

Haven't had much time to work on Sweet Expedition as I'm still working on finishing the commentary for the next video featuring it.

Videos/Streams

This week I did some mis. editing on Dawn of Djinn/XG playthroughs, and even squeeze some time to post commentary for things I've been sitting on like the Dawn of Djinn bonus episode and the next part of the Sweet Expedition playthrough. Only got through about half of the video though so hopefully I can finish it up this weekend so there is no delay in releasing it. Deadline kind-of snuck up on me... oops.

Even then, Splatoon had their first "Big Run" event this weekend so I figured I'd take some time to livestream playing it. I was so looking forward to trying it, I actually did an early stream to get a little practice in and ironically enough I feel that stream went better than the actual evening stream. Worth at least checking out this one if you missed the live stream.

That being said, I spent a lot of time today this weekend streaming between those two sessions so I might just wait till next Saturday to stream again to give myself a break to relax and catch up on other things. So we'll see how I feel as we go through the rest of the weekend.

Mis

Obviously Big Run was the big thing of the week for me, though I did manage to sneak another Spark of Hope play session in. Big Run has been real fun. Haven't really played Splatoon much since the last Splatfest so I was kind of surprised how good I was doing in the first stream, though I feel like I lost some steam in the second half. But still if every stage in Salmon Run was as fun as Whaoo World, maybe I would actually play Splatoon 3 more often. It's fine since I got so many other games to catch up on anyways, like the forementioned Spark of Hope.

Even then there's things like Bug Fables and Origami King that have been collecting hypothetical dust... makes me realize how hard it is to play other Paper Mario/Paper Mario like games when I'm as involved in the Paper Mario modding community as I am. I'm surprised I don't get burnt out on Paper Mario more often considering how much more constantly I'm exposed to it these days. I guess if progress on Sweet Expedition gets slow, I'll use that as my excuse. :P
